Excerpt:
In 2002, Oxygen, an Italian manufacturer, came out with a stylish, leading-edge electric scooter called the Lepton, which resembled the iconic, petrol-powered Vespa. Pitched to the consumer market, the Lepton failed to establish itself. Since then, the company has shifted its emphasis to the fleet market, selling to more than a dozen European postal services and to such home-delivery companies as Domino’s Pizza, Whole Foods Market and UPS and entering into partnerships with such companies as French motorcycle manufacturer Peugeot and US battery manufacturer Valence Technology.
